summer is here!
Now that summer is near and hurricane season is upon some of us, it's time to start thinking about summer safety for our ferrets. Safety should always be a priority both in and outside your home.
In Your Home To keep your ferrets safe at home, make sure the temperature of your home does not get above 75°. Ferrets do best at temperatures between 65° and 68° F. Temperatures above 80° F are dangerous and temperatures above 90° F can be fatal.
Summer is also a time that many of us open our windows. If your ferrets play in a room with open windows, make sure that they are out of your ferrets' reach. A determined ferret could easily claw through a screen and escape. It's best to open windows from the top if possible.
Outside Your Home This time of year also presents lots of opportunities for fun outings. While these outings are enriching, safety should always be your number one priority. Read Outdoor Hazards for Ferrets for some helpful information about taking your ferrets with you!
